The Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens attended the first St
Helens Gymstrada held at Sutton Community Leisure Centre on Saturday 16 July at
what was one of the sporting events of the year to be held in the town.
With over 250 participants taking part, this was an extravaganza of artistic
gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, sports acrobatics and dance. The audience were
enthralled with the elegance, drama, excitement and brilliance of all
participants.
The displays were from local clubs, schools and invited guests and they were
privileged to have in attendance the National Disabilities Display Team and
Spartac, a disabilities group from the region.
The gymstrada was fronted by a professional children’s entertainer who did an
excellent job of keeping the participants and spectators entertained whilst
keeping the event running smoothly.
The committee would like to thank the volunteers who helped with the various
jobs on the day, they were young people who gave their time and expertise, they
did an excellent job, the event could not have run without them. So a Big Thank
You to them all.
Thanks to St Helens Sports Council, North West RG Committee, Elite, Zone and
especially the Network Fund who gave us a substantial grant to get the gymstrada
started. Also many thanks to Sutton C L Centre for their help in organising the
event and the time they took to make it a success.
This was the first event of its kind in the town and we hope it will become an
annual event
